Today at the White House, Melania Trump chose a floral Emilio Pucci dress to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It was a departure for the First Lady, who often sticks to a uniform of sheath dresses, fit and flare frocks, and classic eveningwear. That said, the saffron yellow, floor-skimming piece featured a few key components of Trump’s established style.
The contrast-belt at the waist provided a nod to Trump’s military-inspired wardrobe and defined the silhouette. The floral motif recalled similar Dolce & Gabbana prints from Trump’s first international trip, while the colour was a slightly richer version of the Christian Dior number that she wore to meet Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in May. A pair of tonally coordinated pink suede stilettos and Trump’s diamond ring finished the look.
